Greeting from Latvia!
The 3rd grade of Ostwald School sowed their potted plants.
We had a hard task to choose as there are hundreds of beautiful plants. We have chosen African marigold because they are widely available and undemanding. They are also hardy and bloom from June until autumn frosts in September or even October.
Our plan is to sow marigold in the school yard too and compare which environment is better for this kind of plants: to grow indoors or outdoors. It will be an additional challenge to collect new seeds in autumn thus following the full lifecycle of this beautiful plant.
Lesson plan:
Target language: "Potted plants" vocabulary area
Cross-curricular links: English, Biology
Resources: a sack of compost, a pot for every child, seeds, spades, handmade flashcards with lesson vocabulary area
Time guide: 40 minutes
Aims: To learn what do we need to plant potted plants.
To learn and use words and phrases related to potted plants.
To work collaboratively to sow African marigold seeds.
